The mangrove restoration focuses on areas heavily degraded by deforestation and sedimentation. These estuaries play a critical role in supporting marine biodiversity and protecting the coastline from erosion.
Deforestation for shrimp farming and agricultural activities has led to blocked water channels, declining fish populations, and sedimentation in mangrove estuaries. The project aims to reverse these effects by planting native mangrove species and involving local communities in restoration efforts.
The project employs local fishermen and their families to replant mangrove trees and maintain the restored areas. Restoration efforts focus on improving water quality, reviving fish habitats, and promoting ecotourism opportunities such as birdwatching and mangrove tours.
