Located just forty-five minutes from Marrakech, the Tadmamt nursery offers a stark contrast to the city's urban vibrancy. Nestled in the High Atlas Mountains at the end of a winding dirt road, the nursery has long been a site of walnut cultivation. In early February, it hosted a tree distribution ceremony where 28 men from surrounding communes received 14,860 walnut saplings, representing a transformative opportunity for local communities.
As global demand for organic walnuts continues to rise, high-altitude regions like Tadmamt provide an ideal environment for their cultivation. The nursery facilitates the establishment of organic fruit tree plantations, supporting local farmers and associations by distributing saplings free of charge. Alongside walnuts, new plantings of almond trees are being introduced to diversify and strengthen reforestation efforts.
The strategic vision of the High Commission for Waters and Forests emphasizes integrated governance of natural resources. The participatory approach mobilizes local populations, institutionalizes partnerships between NGOs and government entities, and positions communities as active development stakeholders. This model promotes socioeconomic growth while ensuring forest sustainability.
